You working on your computer then all of a suddnen, CRASH, your computer becomes blue. Many computer owners may have experienced this lovely shade of blue associated with the famous Windows Stop Error or ‘Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Error. It is one of the most frustrating things in the world as any files that weren’t saved at the moment of crash have either lost changes or have been corrupted.
Then, What Caused Blue Screen Error? The first thing that is often thought about is a hardware failure. However, in reality, most of those crashes are software based, either a faulty driver or a kernel module. (In case of a kernel error, most computers running Windows do not show a blue screen unless they are configured to do so. Instead these systems suddenly reboot without any notice. )
WhoCrashed is a comprehensible windows crash dump analysis tool that automatically analyzes dump files written when computer crashes and recommends malfunctioning device driver or kernel module that have caused the errors. It does post-mortem crashdump analysis and presents all gathered information in a comprehensible way. I say comprehensible because most dump analysis tools require a bit of debugging knowledge to be understood correctly while this tool do not need any debugging skills to be able to find out what drivers are causing trouble to your computer.
In most cases, WhoCrashed can pinpoint the offending drivers which have been causing misery on your computer system in the past. Then you can try to uninstall that software and see if it fixes the problem. However, you have to keep in mind this software is not guaranteed to identify the culprit in every case. Because all kernel modules run in the same address space, a kernel module is able to corrupt another. Also, a driver may be able to cause problems to another driver which runs in the same device stack.
Support Windows 7/Vista/XP/2008/2003/2000 (x86 and x64)
WhoCrashed is dependant on WinDbg (the internal Windows debugger) and if you don’t have it installed, WhoCrashed will automatically fetch it for you.
