If you’re looking the way to hide files on your PC hard drive, you may have learn about ways to encrypt folders or change the attributes on a file so that they cannot be accessed by prying eyes. However, hiding files or folders in that way requires that you install some sort of software on your computer, which could then be spotted by someone else. Here is a tutorial for to hiding file behind jpeg image file format using the popular Windows archiver, WinRAR, and a little command line magic.
Gather the files you wish to hide and the JPEG or JPG picture in which you want to hide the files. Any type of files may be hidden in any JPEG picture. Our example uses two text files, text1.txt and text2.txt, and the JPEG picture, picture.jpg.
Create a new folder on your computer hard drive. Click “Start,” choose “Programs,” then “Accessories.” Choose “Windows Explorer.” In “Windows Explorer,” navigate to the drive where you want to place your files. Go up to “File”, then “New”, and choose “Folder”. Name the folder whatever you wish. Try creating a short, simple folder name in a root directory, such as C:, because you need to retype the complete path in later steps, so shorter s better. (Our example is C:Test.)
Move all of the files from Step 1 into the folder created in Step 2. Simply highlight the files in “Windows Explorer” and drag them to the folder.
Compress the files that are to be hidden into one file. Use WinRAR to compress the files. Highlight the files, go up to “File,” and choose “Add to archive.” The WinRAR “Archive name and parameters” window pops up. Enter a name into the “Archive name” box, choose the RAR option under the “Archive format” section and click “OK.” This creates a new RAR file containing all of the files to be hidden. Our example compresses text1.txt and text2.txt into text.rar.
Open the directory from Step 2 in the command prompt. Click “Start,” then “Run.” Type CMD into the “Open:” input box, and click “OK.” This opens the command prompt. At the directory prompt, type “cd” and press “Enter” to navigate to the root directory. Next, type “cd”, a space, and the name of the directory created in Step 2 and press enter. Our example is “cd test”.
Combine the RAR file with the JPG picture. While still in the command prompt, type “copy /b <picture name> + <RAR name> <picture name>” and press enter. Now the JPEG picture looks exactly the same but the files are hidden inside it and its size increased by the size of the hidden files. Our example is “copy /b picture.jpg + text.rar picture.jpg”.
Access the hidden files within the JPEG picture. Simply right-click on the picture, choose “Open With,” and then WinRAR.
It may sound like a lot of work, but it’s a pretty simple process .This is just a neat trick.
