The first Beta development milestone of Microsoft Security Essentials 2.0 was available for download about 5 months ago. And Microsoft won’t announce a final release date until they are ready. After a long time wait, today, they are ready!
Microsoft has just released Microsoft Security Essentials 2, the high-quality, hassle-free antivirus protection, to protect your computer against malicious software such as viruses, spyware, worms and Trojans.
New features in the beta of Microsoft Security Essentials include:
- Windows Firewall integration – During setup, Microsoft Security Essentials will now ask if you would like to turn the Windows Firewall on or off.
- Enhanced protection for web-based threats – Microsoft Security Essentials now integrates with Internet Explorer to provide protection against web-based threats.
- New protection engine – The updated anti-malware engine offers enhanced detection and cleanup capabilities with better performance. It also come with heuristic scanning which tries to identify unknown threats by scanning for typical malware patterns on the system.
- Network inspection system* – Protection against network-based exploits is now built in to Microsoft Security Essentials.
Microsoft Security Essentials 2.0 is offered as a 32-bit and 64-bit edition (32-bit only on XP) and available to all genuine Windows XP, Vista, and 7 users.Small businesses may like the fact that Microsoft Security Essentials can be installed on up to 10 PCs free of charge.

If you have already installed a previous version of Microsoft Security Essentials, you don’t need to uninstall it, simply install the new version over it and start again.
