Microsoft has officially rebranded its SkyDrive cloud storage service to OneDrive, and to mark the transition, they are offering users up to 20GB of additional free storage – 15 GB for using the camera roll backup feature on your Windows phone, or iOS and Android (Android 4.0+) apps, and 5GB in referrals (0.5 GB for each of up to 10 friends who accept your invites to OneDrive). In addition, new OneDrive uers get 15GB free storage as standard, so this can max out at 35GB of free storage. There’s also a new monthly payment plan for those who want even more storage and more flexibility in how they use their storage.
Get yourself 15GB of additional storage by using the camera backup feature:
1, Install OneDrive Android App (Android 4.0+), iOS App or use the built-in Phone camera roll backup feature on your Windows phone
2, Uploading at least one photo using the new “Camera Backup” feature
3, You may need to wait for up to 24 hours, and then check your current storage via this link: https://onedrive.live.com/options/ManageStorage
If you are still not getting the extra 15GB after 24 hours, please contact OneDrive customer support using this link (please select the option at the bottom to “Contact Customer Support”).
Earn up to 5 GB additional storage by referring friends:
500MB for each friend you refer to OneDrive, up to a maximum of 5 GB. To referral a friend, please sign into your OneDrive and press “Get More Storage” (Bottom Left), then press “Get Free Storage” next to Referral Bonus to get your Referral link. For each friend who signs into OneDrive as a new customer, both you and your friend will receive an extra 0.5 GB of free storage (max 5 GB). This is similar in concept to the referral bonus popularized by Dropbox.
The company also continues to offer 200 GB of OneDrive storage for two years with the purchase of Surface 2 or Surface Pro 2 tablets.
