ESET NOD32 Antivirus For Linux Desktop Download
|Desktop Linux distributions have surged in popularity on netbooks and low-cost office terminals. Linux has won for its fast startup time, low systems requirements and cost efficiency relative to popular platforms like Windows and Mac OS X.
Whether you use your Linux desktop to surf the Web or work on shared office documents, it is vulnerable to direct attacks by malware or may be targeted as a carrier for cross-platform viruses and other threats designed to target Windows and Macs. Network shares, email and removable media like USB keys are easy ways for multiplatform malware to spread under the radar. Many antivirus developing software companies, for the above mentioned reasons, have developed antivirus solutions to protect Desktop Linux (or to protect Windows machines from within Linux machines). One of the most well known and respected companies is ESET.
ESET NOD32 Antivirus 4 for Linux Desktop offers complete protection against cross-platform and emerging threats, making Linux platforms even safer. Using advanced heuristic techniques that has protected millions of Windows users for over a decade, the ThreatSense scanning engine automatically detects and cleans malicious code, including threats designed for the Windows operating system. For the corporate setting, it is vitally important that every single endpoint within a network has an effective antivirus deployed to ensure protection across multiple platforms. ESET NOD32 Antivirus 4 for Linux Desktop fulfils this role perfectly.

Nah, I don’t agree this time. As a devoted Linux user myself, I rather agree with other ICT-professionals with in-depth Linux/other UNIX-derivate OS knowledge, and the opinion that is known as rule-of-thumb for Linux systems: UNIX-based OS in general runs fast and requires far less hardware demands — even running smoothly on old pc’s that (the usual opinion of ignorants) are just nothing worth anymore nowadays except having a place in a museum or, worse, as garbage — because they do NOT require antimalware protection, and ESET is imho just trying to infiltrate like other commercial players on the Linux-market, only for profit, knowing themselves that they actually just trying to scare people so they would pay for useless protection. Perhaps it’s not such a bad idea to inform yourself a little better, and visit some real Linux fora or devoted websites: antivirus software is explicitely discouraged to use, because it’s only resource-hogging, and that’s it. There are NO significant threats for Linux desktop systems, for hackers/malware coders it’s way too complicated to attack Linux systems. Also the fact that a vast minority of desktop/laptop/netbook users is running Linux because it’s commonly used by geeks and skilled experts, not quite fit for the Average Joe or novice pc-user, is a discouraging fact for hackers themselves. The vast MAJORITY still uses the most vulnerable system: Micro$oft Window$. They’re emptying their wallets looking for troubles, and Windows is perfectly fit for dummies…. that is why hackers or malware-coders rather prefer to attack Windows systems in massive amounts: it’s easy to discover security holes that can be exploited even more easier…. ask yourself: if you were a hacker, what would YOU do: the easy way to attack successfully or torturing yourself the hard way writing code to trigger an attack on Linux systems, with poor results or mostly just complete failure? People should be informed properly and being aware that Linux is the safest system that exists nowadays. Propaganda to make them paranoid is not really the best approach and is in general not appreciated by open-source communities. Of course there is no single operating system 100 percent bullet-proof, but the chance that you get infected is almost zero if you have the proper know-how. And above all: Linux has already a built-in strong protection pre-installed out-of-the-box. So: no trials, no money-waste needed. Note: scanning for viruses that could attack Windows systems while harmless for UNIX-based OS is trivial: Windows users should take their responsibility knowing that THEY should protect themselves properly against infections or attacks! Consider this remark as it is: valuable content, not meant to really critisize or to offend at all, just that I don’t agree.
Greetz!
