SkyDrive (officially Microsoft SkyDrive, previously Windows Live SkyDrive) is a cloud storage service that allows users to upload and sync files to a cloud storage and then access them from anywhere with access to free Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote in your browser. Use your SkyDrive storage and you’ll never be without the documents, notes, photos, and videos that matter to you. Just log on to a web browser, sign in to skydrive.com, and go to work viewing or editing.
When you sign up to use Microsoft’s SkyDrive service, you normally get 7GB of free cloud storage space with a 2 GB file size limit. Users who need more storage space will need to purchase paid storage. You can add 20 GB to your account by paying $10/year, add 50 GB by paying $25/year or 100 GB by paying $50/year. Now Microsoft has launched a promo to offer college students (with a valid .edu email address) an additional 3 GB of free space.
All you need to do is head over promo page here, enter a valid .edu email address, and a free storage code will be sent your way.
Note the storage code valid for an extra 3 GB of free SkyDrive storage for one year. Code must be redeemed by 12/31/13. 3 GB storage expires one year from voucher redemption. Limit: one voucher per person. Not redeemable for cash or gift cards. Single use only. This voucher is non-transferrable, and may only be redeemed by U.S. college students (we have confirmed that the free storage code could be redeemed by students worldwide).
